How to play Master System Freeware on SNES (Recommended):

We must buy "AD Adapter(White version)". It can load sms files from micro SD card.
This unit originally seems to use "Dr.SMS" coded by Reesy (). Only we have to do is simply copy sms file on micro SD card.
However, some freeware are not compatible with Dr.SMS .
Next we should use another emulator, "SMSAdavance", which was coded by Fredrik Olsson ().
1. Download SMSAdvance from other websites. (eg. pdroms.de :External link)
2. Doubleclick SMSAdvance and add sms files which were not compatible with Dr.SMS.

3. Click "Save" button. "SMS.GBA" would be created.
4. Open this "SMS.GBA" using binary editor.  See line #B0 and columns #00 & #01.  This 2 bytes were "00 00". Make it "30 30".

5. Copy "SMS.GBA" to your own micro SD card and insert your AD adapter (white version).
6. Turn your SNES console on. Choose "SMS.GBA". The game would be loaded automatically.
7. You can select another game you've added by pressing X button and L button (reboot "SMS.GBA").

Compatibility list is showed below.

What's "MBD" ? :

It stands for "Master system freeware Booting Difficulty on SNES+AD Adapter(White version)".

All sms files.

How to play Master System Freeware on CD32+FDD:

We can use "AmiMasterGear" coded by Juan Antonio Gomez (). This program is now freeware.
Download it from aminet.net first, then transfer and extract to RAM: .
Copy "AmiMasterGear", "Libs/Stc.library" and s/AmiMasterGear.Key to a blank 880KB formatted diskette.
Add c/loadwb , Libs/asl.library and  s/startup-sequence to that diskette.
Finally create a folder named "cartridges" , and copy sms file(s) to that folder.

First, insert that AmiMasterGear disk, then turn your CD32 on.
Doubleclick "AmiMasterGear" icon. The program would be loaded instantly.

First, you select "Standard Joypad" clicking Joy-Control tab.
Then, hold right button of mouse on the tool bar, then release that right button selecting "Save Prefs".
A file named "AmiMasterGear.prefs" would be saved in df0:s . You don't have to choose "Standard Joypad" every booting any more.

Now click "Insert", and choose the game file you want to play.
Then click "Power ON" button. The game would be loaded soon!
Wow!

Save the game:

You can save the game anywhere you want.

Press ESC key and return to the menu screen once.

Then, hold right button of mouse on the tool bar, then release it selecting "Save Frozen".

A new small window appears. Click "Drawer" box and type RAM: .
Of course you can save the snapshot to df0: every time , however,
it would take much less time if we save the snapshot to RAM: temporally. (Imagine "Quick save" & "Quick load" scheme.)
When you want to turn your CD32 off, copy RAM:xxx.Frozen to df0: .

Load the game:

When you want to load the game (eg. when you died by mistake )...

Press ESC key and return to the menu screen once.
Then, hold right button of mouse on the tool bar, then release it selecting "Load Frozen".

A new small window appears. Choose a file you want to restart.
Finally click "Continue" button. You can resume the game instantly.

When you turn on your CD32 and resume from the point you saved,
insert the game file (sms file) first.
Then, load Frozen file. (It would be better if you copy Frozen file to RAM: from df0: in advance.)

Cons of AmiMasterGear:

1. Some titles are not compatible. It would crash immediately or cause graphical glitches.
eg. "Bread and Butter", "Sega Tween 3D", "SMS FMV Demonstration" ...,etc.

2. Some titles would be very sluggish if your system is 020 CPU (14Mhz) + 1.8MB chip RAM.
eg. "Gekioko Punpun Maru", "Lost Raider", "Lander1", "Bad Apple!! PV" ...,etc.

I divide all compatible games into 3 classes. See below.

Definition & comment
Lv.3
32KB ~ 512KB sized sms files. It can be placed in the same diskette with AmiMasterGear.
Lv.4
1024KB sized sms file. Analogic FDD users cannot place it on RAM: , otherwise it causes RAM shortage.
You must copy it to a blank Amiga CD or CD32 formatted CD.
Lv.5
2048KB sized sms file. It causes RAM shortage even if you copy it to Amiga CD / CD32 formatted CD.
It also requires Fast RAM. To add Fast RAM, you have to buy more expensive accelerator (eg. SX series)

Examples:

Once I tested many homebrew games released in recent years. See my old article.
Sorry, that article was written in Japanese. But you can see many screenshots.
If you are interested in them, why not try soon?!

"SMS Power!", one of the biggest community for Sega Master System stuff, archives them.
Visit and click "Homebrew" links. You can see screenshots, download link(s) and a forum per 1 homebrew game.
